Natascha Tümpel

Studio Natascha Tümpel is an award-winning graphic design studio that bridges visual design, experimental graphic and academic research. With over two decades of experience in graphic design, Natascha creates editorial and exhibition designs for museums, artists, architects and publishers. Her work has been exhibited at the Mattress Factory Contemporary Art Museum and the Red Dot Design Museum, and has received numerous awards, including the Red Dot Design Award and the German Design Award for Communication Design. Her research focuses on computer-aided design processes and the materiality of visual design. These experimental research and design projects are artistic ventures that seek new questions and images.

Vita

Natascha Tümpel is an experimental designer, teacher, and design researcher based in Jena and Weimar, Germany. Her work focuses on artistic and research-based graphic design. Born in Bangkok, Thailand, she was primarily raised in Germany. After studying Communication Design in Germany and Fine Art / Electronic Media in the United States, she worked and exhibited internationally as a designer and artist. She founded »Studio Natascha Tümpel« in 2014 and is currently pursuing a doctorate at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in collaboration with the Institute Digital Communication Environments at the Basel Academy of Art and Design / FHNW and the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart. She is a founding member of »Un/learning Art and Design Education e.V.« that questions and raises awareness of the power structures and intersecting forms of exclusion present in art and design teaching and research.
